The Château de La Verdière is the largest private castle in Provence and the only one to bear, intact, a thousand years of lineage between three great families.
Built in 980 by the Castellane family, transformed by the Vintimille and then by the Forbin, to whom Provence owes its attachment to the Kingdom of France, the Château de La Verdière is not just another residence: it is a living fragment of Provençal history.
Its current appearance bears the signature of Louis-Roch de Forbin d'Oppède, who retired there in 1756 and devoted seventeen years to making it one of the most refined residences of his time. State rooms, a ballroom exceeding 30 meters, library, archives room and a 40-meter terrace unfold beneath plasterwork of rare finesse, among the most remarkable in Provence.
Confiscated during the Revolution, occupied by eight hundred soldiers in 1848, classified as a Historical Monument in its entirety in 1986: the castle has endured hardships without ever losing its soul.
Since the 2000s, its owner has devoted seven years to restoration carried out with the Historical Monuments authority, restoring to each stone its original nobility.
The estate spans 5,000 m² of living space across five levels, served by five grand staircases and an elevator. A hundred rooms compose this ensemble, including 25 bedrooms and suites with private bathrooms, each opening onto panoramic terraces and up to ten additional bedrooms possible according to the future owner's project.
